Architects may have seen the article on page 3 of the 9 May 2008 issue of Building Design headlined 'ACA and RIBA split over forms of contract'. This article (and subsquent press coverage in Building Design in particular throughout the summer of 2008) arises from the ACA's view (on advice from specialist construction lawyers) that the new RIBA client contract forms remove various vital legal safeguards that architects have enjoyed for many years.
So much concern has been expressed about the new RIBA forms published last autumn 2007, including from distinguished legal commentators and other professional organisations, that the ACA resolved to publish its own standard form of appointment which will reinstate these safeguards.
